Frequently asked questions

HOW do I turn OFF that annoying opening cinematic??

Man do I wish they’d change that thing. Or make it less loud. I don’t even care, just when you’ve heard it a thousand times it gets old. Anyway. Turning it off requires you to navigate to your .ini in the Conan Exiles folder.

  • Right click on the game in Steam

  • Click on Manage

  • Click on Browse Local Files

  • Here you will find the ConanSandbox folder, then into the Config folder, and locate a file called DefaultGame.ini

  • Open the .ini in notepad and scroll down until you see this:

[/script/movieplayer.movieplayersettings]

+StartupMovies=StartupUE4

+StartupMovies=StartupNvidia

+StartupMovies=CinematicIntroV2

You can also ctrl-f to find this location. You need to change all of the + at the beginning of each of those lines to - signs to disable the cinematic. This will disable the UE and Nvidia logo things at the beginning too but if you REALLY wanna keep those, the leave the + there.

Pressing enter doesn’t open the chat box… can I fix this?

Yes. Enter is set to open the chat box, but there is a game side setting that overrides this, so just make sure that your keys are bound in a way you like.

Go to your key binds in settings and change the default keybind for “general chat” to something else - it is defaulted to enter. Then change “chat box” to enter.

How can I make it so I can hear the game even when I’m tabbed out?

This is another thing in the ini you have to go in and edit.

Follow the above instructions to get to your ConanSandbox folder and in this instance you want to find BaseEngine.ini

Conan Exiles\Engine\Config\BaseEngine.ini

From there Locate the [Audio] section and edit the following line: UnfocusedVolumeMultiplier=0.0

Change the 0.0 to 1.0 and you’ll get full sound even when the program is running in the background.

The UI keeps disappearing! Help!

This is… unfortunately how Tot !HUD is designed. The good news is, however, that it’s very easy to edit on an individual scale. Open any of Tot’s mods and click on the gear icon to get to settings. You can also use the gear icon in the chat window. Navigate to Tot ! HUD and the setting for the UI are right there in the beginning.

How do I edit my character?

Shift-B will open up the !Custom editor. As a note, B is currently bound to the Battle Pass, so this WILL also open the batte pass screen if you don’t rebind that key.

Someone said there’s a minimap but I don’t have it, how come?

You need to activate it. Press on the gear on any of the Tot mods, or the chat window and navigate to Tot ! HUD settings then click on Open HUD Editor. From there you can customize your HUD even further, including adding the minimap.

What are the hot keys for the mods we have enabled?

To open your RPR character sheet the key is shift-r
To edit your character, the key is shift-b
Note: You may need to change the hot keys for the bazaar and battle pass if opening that screen at the same time becomes annoying. You can always close it while keeping the character editor open by pressing “b” again

I closed my character sheet before I finished filling it out… why can’t I edit it?

This is how the mod is designed. Just open a ticket in staff-request and a member of staff can reset your character sheet for you.

Every time I press T it opens an empty radial menu... can I change this?

Yes! The menu is something added by Indrids, it's for our supernatural characters but I'm also aware that it's used for followers as well. To change the keybind in Indrids:

  • Hold R

  • Select RP Profiles

  • Then change the keybind for the Aura Wheel once you're in there.

How do I make my weapons visible when I’m not holding them in ToT?

I’m going to also explain skinning the weapons while I’m here.

Like other mods, a weapon will only skin to something that shares the same type. Short sword to short sword, as an example. This is done in the <Weapons> tab in the character customizer.

As for how to make the weapon visible on your person when you aren’t carrying it around and disappear when you are, that is slightly more complicated, but simple once you know how.

The first place you want to navigate to is <Accessories>. !Custom is a fantastic tool for making unique and interesting characters, and most of this is done with the Accessories. I highly recommend spending some time playing around with this creator when you’re able.

From here you can either edit your current set, or edit a saved look. For now we’re just going to click on Current Set. You want to click the Green button that says “Edit” when highlighted. Next, you click the green + button to add a new accessory. Then click on “Add Item”. From here you can either scroll to find your weapon or type in the search bar the name of the item you’re looking for. Upon clicking on the weapon you want, it will automatically place it in the default location of where it would sit on a character. Click on the arrow in the upper left to go back.

Now it is on your character, scroll down to where it’s located in the list of accessories. On the far right you’ll see a number of buttons that do various things. This is where you can move where the accessory sits on the character. We aren’t going to mess with this much, but I recommend playing around with it later. What you actually want to do is click on the green + at the bottom. This will change how it shows on your character depending on different things you do.

You can choose either “While Item is Equipped” or “While Any Weapon is Equipped” and this will make it so that whenever you draw your weapon, it will no longer show sheathed on the character.

Write your text here...Sanity represents a character's current mental well being. Loss of sanity results in paranoia, PTSD, nightmares and eventual hallucinations. It is not a representation of neurodivergence.

Certain areas and events will cause a player to take a hit to their mental fortitude.

First interaction with an eldritch entity's realm will automatically deduct 1 pt of sanity. Interactions afterward can be resisted with Willpower rolls that get increasingly more difficult as the realm is interacted with. Please open a ticket through staff-request with a screenshot of your roll and number of times your character has interacted with something that may cause negative sanity repercussions.

Below is an example of how certain levels of sanity should be played. As a note, the player CAN adjust their sanity to their own free will but at any moment a member of staff can be monitoring how that character is interacting with the world around them and it is recommended that these guidelines are followed.

Levels of Sanity

20: Character has not suffered any major hits to their mind and is operating at normal parameters.

19: Character experienced something that didn't quite make sense to them, or they weren't sure if it was actually real. Event has caused some confusion or memory loss.

18: Very mild paranoia as whatever has happened to the character has left more questions than answers.

17: Is what happened real? Will people believe you if you tell them? Occasional nightmares and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (E.G. fear, freezing up, episodes of depression/anxiety/emotional numbness at random or in response to trigger) regarding the event.

16: Increase in paranoia, enough that outside parties may notice a change in behavior. Potential for poor sleep as nightmares plague the character.

15: Suffering from minor and occasional visual or auditory hallucinations. The character begins to become distrustful of others as mild, but permanent paranoia sets in.

14: Increase in hallucinations (more severe and/or more frequent auditory/visual hallucinations) and paranoia worsens. Character’s distrust of others deepens. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder responses worsen and become more frequent. Example of what the Character may believe: Everyone knows what you see, but they're lying about it.

13: Character begins to experience delusions. They begin to lose the ability to rationalize the difference between reality and what they are experiencing. Character may also lose the understanding that others cannot see/hear the Character’s hallucinations. Example: “Does everyone know what I experienced or do they do it to me on purpose? Who keeps whispering?”

12: Character’s nightmares worsen. Character begins to experience occasional, mild tactile hallucinations (hallucinations of physical touch/physical sensation) on top of auditory/visual hallucinations. What they see in their nightmares begins to bleed into their waking perception, further blurring their reality and worsening their delusions. Example: Why can you hear the whispers but not understand the words? Why can't you sleep without the dreams?

11: Character becomes unable to get restful sleep because of the nightmares. The bleeding of nightmares into waking perception deepen further. Auditory hallucinations are louder, visual hallucinations are more vivid, and tactile hallucinations become more obvious (e.g. the feeling of a tickle becomes akin to prodding needles). Example: “I’m so tired. I just want them to stop whispering. I just want to sleep. Please let me sleep.”

10: Character more frequently slips when actively trying to determine their delusions from reality, or the Character begins to think of reality as part of their “dreaming.” Example: “Am I asleep? Isn't that thing I saw from my nightmares? Surely I must be asleep.”

9: Character enters a constant state of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder responses (E.G. bouts of sudden fear/anxiety, periods of dissociation, depression, episodes of emotional numbness, self-destructive behavior, trouble concentrating). Example: “Why can't I understand the whispers?! Why won't they let me be at peace?! Why are they always watching?!”

8: Character’s paranoia becomes more severe as their hallucinations become even more severe (I.E. extremely vivid auditory, visual, and tactile hallucinations; Character may even feel moderate to severe phantom pain). They lose the ability to form new, meaningful relationships as their delusions make the Character suspect everyone around them, especially strangers. Example: “I know they're there. Watching and whispering and I can't understand the words.”

7: Character can no longer sleep without sedative assistance. If the Character does not sleep, every couple of days they pass out from exhaustion as their body forces a rest. Example: “When was the last time I slept? Why are they always there? Always watching. Always whispering.”

6: Lack of rest combined with worsening sanity causes the Character to lean fully into their delusions. They lose all ability to determine reality from their nightmares. The Character’s hallucinations become so vivid that they are equivalent to their experiences and sensations while awake. Example: “Where am I? Am I asleep? Am I alone? I'm never alone. Not anymore.”

5: Character loses ability to maintain meaningful relationships at all, even among people they consider(ed) to be close friends, loved ones, or family. Character begins to suspect that everyone, even those close to them, are part of their “dreaming.” Example: “They follow me everywhere. In my dreams. In my waking hours. They are quiet sometimes. But I can always see them.”

4: Character develops delusions of grandeur (defined in this context as “a false impression of one’s own importance”), believing themself chosen by powers that only the Character themself can perceive. Example: “They want me for something. I can understand the whispers now. They have chosen me.”

3: Delusions of grandeur worsen. Character fully believes that everything and everyone around them is part of their “dreaming,” and that perhaps they can be controlled. Example: “Always scratch scratch scratching in my ears and in my mind. Watching and worming squirming through my thoughts.”

2: Character believes that their entire world can be controlled as part of a lucid dream. They speak nonsensically, perhaps more to their hallucinations than to themself. Example: “The great maw of teeth opens to consume my soul and I dance and sing for them. The countless eyes that watch. The thousand mouths that whisper.”

1: Character becomes a gibbering mess as they lose all sense of self to their nightmares. They forget to eat, they forget to drink. Unless they are assisted, the Character runs a very real risk of starving to death if their self-destructive behavior does not kill them first. Example: “I will dance little firefly into the black void of teeth and eyes and I will be one with them all.”
